Simple Distance Data Display Unit ~ BOB-II-SDD Host Board

BNAB-SDD is a compatible host board assembly for Decade's BOB-II-SDD modules, making up a low-cost board set for displaying distance data as an overlay on video from pipeline inspection cameras. Many other remote video inspection applications are possible, including nuclear, industrial, borehole, etc. BNAB-SDD features an encoder interface for industry-standard 5V incremental quadrature distance encoders. The serial data interface is not present in this BNAB version. A character transparency control is provided, but external video level controls are not. The 'missing video' indicator is also missing. ;-)

BNAB-SDD Specifications

[Bullet] Physical:

Overall dimensions are 4.825" x 4.000". BNAB is designed to fit Hammond 1598B series molded plastic cabinets.  The transparency trimmer at the front of the board may be made accessible to the equipment operator through a small hole in the panel of your final assembly. Custom front & back panels are not available at this writing.

[Bullet] Power Supply:

The power connector (J6) accepts a standard coaxial DC power plug. Center pin is V+12, sleeve is ground. Power consumption is less than 100mA, not including encoder power. Decade Engineering suggests a power supply with substantially higher current rating, to prevent voltage sag at turn-on time which could result in a poor reset of the microcontroller in BOB-II.

[Bullet] Encoder Interface:

The BNAB-SDD encoder interface provides regulated +5V output to a 5V (TTL) quadrature optical encoder, which must produce 10 cycles per foot. An LS7084 encoder interface IC provides noise rejection and translates the phase quadrature signals from the encoder to pulse and direction data suitable for BOB-II-SDD.

[Bullet] Video I/O:

RCA or BNC style Video In/Out connectors are optional at ordering time. An 4-pin video I/O header connector footprint is provided as a third video I/O connector option. Any standard .025” square post header with .100” pin spacing may be installed, including friction-lock types.

[Bullet] Control Port:

A 5-pin friction-lock male header connector is provided for the two BOB-II-SDD operator control switches. Molex KK series .100" female plugs are compatible.
